2017 Herb Farm Crew
We are currently seeking 2-3 seasonal farm crew members for 2017! Crew members work 32 hours/week including a farmer's market rotation on weekends, from mid-April to mid-December. You'll work alongside Katelyn as well as the apothecary manager to see each of our herbal products through from seed to bottle. This is a startup year for the farm, and we have lots of big plans up our sleeves! We'll be growing 3 acres of medicinal herbs – focusing on 24 mainstays, but including about 50 species – as well as a ½ acre and 2 hoophouses for cut flower production.
During the week, work consists of all farm duties, including but certainly not limited to: propagation, bed prep, planting, irrigation set up, weeding and cultivation, mowing, harvesting and processing, record keeping; as well as apothecary duties: racking fresh herbs in the drying loft, garbling and milling dried herbs, packaging herbs and tea blends, pressing and blending herbal tinctures, packaging and labeling all products for sale. An important part of the position includes enthusiastically marketing our herbal products, fresh herbs and cut flowers at farmer's markets on a rotation every Saturday and Sunday. Market days include traveling, setting up, making flower bouquets, chatting all day with over-the-moon enthusiasm for and knowledge about each herb and cut flower we sell, breaking down and unloading back at the farm.
Previous farming experience strongly preferred; you will need to be able to work with a steady pace in all weather conditions. You must be able to lift 50 lbs above your waist. Some education, experience or demonstrated interest in herbalism is helpful; however, we will provide ongoing training and informal herbal study opportunities throughout the season. Experience working in a commercial kitchen would also be helpful, but is not necessary. Above all, we're looking for hardworking and enthusiastic people to join our small team!
Half price on all finished products + fresh herbs and flowers galore
Opportunity to attend workshops, classes, plant walks, farm visits, etc in the area
On-site housing available
